Hospice Volunteers at VITAS serve in two meaningful capacities, patient care and administrative -- each playing a vital role in supporting our mission of delivering exceptional care to patients and families.

11th-Hour Vigil Volunteers focuses on creating a "sacred space" through a calming, steady presence, ensuring that no patient has to face the end of life alone. Volunteers act as a bridge of comfort for both the patient and their grieving families, requiring a high level of emotional maturity and a level-headed approach to the dying process.

As a hospice organization, our main goal is to provide comfort to our patients in any way we can. If you are a cosmetology student, have a current cosmetology license, or just enjoy styling hair, we need you! In addition, if you enjoy polishing nails/pampering care, we would love to have you as well! Our patients would greatly enjoy and benefit from your skills as you provide a bright light to their day and a lasting impact! Your unique skills can provide comfort and happiness to our patients and families! At the end of life, comfort  is one of our top goals in our Hospice organization. If you enjoy creating art work, painting, sewing, knitting, crocheting, etc. you can help provide comfort to our patients and families! Join us as we come together and create arts and crafts projects together, share fellowship, and hand out these projects once complete to our patients and families. Any items like blankets (or fidget blankets), paintings, any art work or arts & crafts, cards, home/room decor, etc. can be made as we share time together and let our skills and imagination turn into beautiful gifts for our patients! Our volunteers are a vital part of our hospice team. Our patients and families connect with our volunteers on a deeper level as they open up their hearts to our volunteers who are compassionate with a servants heart. Visiting with these patients can minimize loneliness and provide them with a sense of belonging through fellowship. These volunteers can provide companionship and share interests, engage in games with the patients, read to the patients, journal, write letters to our patients and families, card making, provide a helping hand and a listening ear, provide caregiver relief as the family is able to have some free time to run errands, light housework, and many more tasks! Our volunteers truly make a huge impact on our families and patients. Volunteers make their own schedule and can volunteer as little or as often as possible. Administrative volunteers serve as a huge helping hand to the office staff with clerical tasks such as answering phones, mailings, helping make marketing goodie bags, making admission packets, filing and organizing in the office, writing cards and letters to our patients and bereaved families, helping with event planning, phone calls to patients, etc. We are looking for volunteers in the area for our Daphne, AL location. The Children's Museum of Montgomery's 5th Annual STREAM Faire will highlight humanity's superpowers: creativity and innovation. This hands-on event will engage children ages 5-12 and their grown-ups in superhero STEM and art challenges around downtown Montgomery between Dexter Avenue and 1 Court Square.

The YMCA TOPSoccer program is designed to promote the physical, mental, and emotional growth of children with special needs through soccer. Open to children ages 4-19 with intellectual, emotional, or physical disabilities, the program provides an inclusive, supportive, and safe environment where participants can develop soccer skills. TOPSoccer fosters social interaction, builds self-confidence, and allows kids of diverse abilities to experience the joy of playing soccer in a fun, structured setting. This program is run out of the Emory Folmar YMCA Soccer Complex.

We are seeking some helpers to set up for our plant sale fundraiser on Friday, April 10th from 9am until around noon. We will set up the tables, move plants to the tables, arrange flower pots, garden equipment, etc. for sale. 

Help us make a difference in our community by joining us for a clean-up in the Charlestown and New Town neighborhoods. Meet us at 10:00am at Jerusalem Baptist Church, 1720 Tolvert St, Montgomery, AL 36110.

We are in need of assistance rebuilding our composting area. At the location, 3 shrubs need to be removed. The new composting area will be built on that location from pallets. If you have a drill please bring one. Food and refreshments will be provided.

We need volunteers to help us with our Community Day! Location is the Chisholm Community Center.

Volunteers at Dream Court Adaptive Tennis Clinic are paired one-on-one with athletes who have intellectual or physical disabilities, providing individualized support and encouragement throughout each session. Volunteers help guide participants through basic tennis drills, assist with skill development, and adapt activities to meet each athlete’s unique needs. The goal is to create a positive, inclusive environment where participants can learn the fundamentals of tennis, build confidence, and enjoy the game at their own pace. Volunteers also play an important role in fostering social connection, promoting independence, and ensuring each athlete feels supported and empowered on the court.

We need volunteers to assist with setting up, taking down, and assisting attendees at our health fair. The fair will be located at New Town Community Center.

Showtime at the Davis Theatre- A Talent Show Competition is a stage for outstanding artists from different categories to share their talent and compete for prize money. It is Sunday, April 19, 2026 at the Davis Theatre, 251 Montgomery Street, Montgomery, AL 36104. Doors open at 1pm and the show starts at 2pm. The competition is a showcase open to artists to express themselves through dance, song, spoken word, comedy, poetry, playing an instrument, choirs, dance groups, etc.

Mobile Museum of Art provides dozens of programs for the public and participates in numerous community activities that would not be possible without volunteers. Through hands-on service, volunteers play many roles that make it possible for the Museum to further its mission while developing their personal interest in the arts. Museum programs such as school and walk-in tours as well as outreach events are some of the most important aspects of the museum that are significantly enhanced by the generous dedication of time and service from our valued volunteers.

Sybil Smith Family Village, a transitional housing program of the Dumas Wesley Community Center, provides safe shelter and essential support services for homeless women and children in Mobile County.

We’re looking for compassionate volunteers to lead fun, enriching activities for children while their parents attend weekly life skills classes. This is a great opportunity to give back—whether you're looking for a one-time experience or a weekly commitment.

When: Tuesdays and Thursdays, 5:45 PM – 7:00 PM

Who: Individuals or groups (ages 19 and up)

Our veteran patients that are currently on Hospice enjoy the camaraderie and the bond that only those with military histories share and pay tribute to others who have served our county.  These volunteers may provide social visits, take part in special pinning ceremonies, or interview and document veterans military stories through the veterans history project.  These visits would be made in the patients homes in Mobile County.        

Hospice volunteers are the most special in the world! They always have the biggest hearts!       

Regular visits from Hospice Companions can minimize patient loneliness and isolation through fellowship.  These volunteers provide companionship to the patients and relief to their caregivers by offering a supportive presence, a listening ear and a helping hand. These type of volunteer may provide companionship, care-relief, pet therapy, life review, reading to the patient, playing games, writing letters on behalf of patient and many more tasks.  These volunteers are needed in Mobile County.  

If you have ever had a family member on Hospice, you have hopefully seen the impact that wonderful visitors can make on an entire family. 

This volunteer opportunity is great for students looking to build their resumes and get patient experience. Volunteering with patients 1:1  can sometimes be a little daunting, but we work hard to make things really comfortable for everyone! Schedules for volunteering with patients can also be super FLEXIBLE! Great for students.

Mobile Japanese Garden is a public place with 16 acres of natural gardens and trails, and we need your help beautifying the space during the week and on the weekend. Help us get the garden ready for pictures and school field trips.

Earth Day is hosted by Love Your Community and Mobile County Commission with support from Keep Mobile Beautiful and GCRC&D.  We need a variety of help to make this event the best yet! The event time is 10-2 on Saturday but we need help from 8-4 pm and on Friday also between 10 and 4. Set up as 2 hour shifts but mark as long as you want to participate. Shirts provided at check in and to be worn for identification purposes.

Are you looking to make a difference for a local homeowner? Rebuilding Together of South Alabama (RTSA) is looking for volunteers or groups to assistance with service days. Tasks include installing metal siding.

Rebuilding Together of South Alabama is looking for volunteers to assist with revitalizing playground by moving mulch and cleaning playground equipment. All supplies will be provided (PPE, water, snacks, lunch, RTSOAL t-shirt, gloves, and instructions)

Our 2026 AFK Kidney Walk & Celebration is Saturday, May 2nd this year, I have attached the information! Volunteers will arrive at 6:45/7:00am and stay until the event is complete and loaded, which is usually around 11:00am. Tasks will be assigned upon arrival. Light lifting, standing, walking, is required.

We host a mobile food pantry on the 3rd Friday of each month with Heart of Alabama Food Bank. We need volunteers to help us pass out food from 9am-12pm at Newtown Community Center located at 1765 N. Decatur St in Montgomery.

If you have the skills to fix a bicycle, you can get donated medical equipment clean, working properly, and ready to give away to anyone who needs it.  This program saves people a third of a MILLION dollars per year on their medical needs.  You can make this big a difference in someone's life!

We're looking for volunteers to serve as crossing guards for the 4th annual Woodland Creek Memorial Day 5k in Pike Road. Proceeds directly support River Region Trails, while we celebrate our military community and kick off the summer with fellowship and fun.  

Crossing guards play an important role in helping runners safely cross the street along the course. Guards are needed from the whistle at 7 am until the last runner crosses the intersection. All volunteers are encouraged to join the festivities to follow.  

Help cancer patients get to life-saving treatment. The best treatment won’t work if a patient can’t get there.

As a Road To Recovery volunteer driver with the American Cancer Society, you’ll use your personal vehicle to provide free rides for cancer patients who have no other way to get to their appointments.

Most rides are Monday–Friday during the day. You choose the rides that fit your schedule. Volunteers are encouraged to provide 1-2 rides per month.

WE NEED TUTORS for our GED program in Metro Jail, both men and women!  Tutor math, science, social studies, and reading (choose your subject area--you don't have to be good at all of them!)  Classes are held in the chapel area. Assist the GED instructor by tutoring individual students.  Male volunteers need to be available for a morning class from 8 am to 10 am, most weekdays (you can do just one a week if you prefer). Female volunteers have a choice of Monday afternoon, Thursday morning, or Thursday afternoon.

Does your company pay you for a day of service?  That's one class a week for a month--this WILL make an impact.

Your tutoring can help men and women study Science, Math, Social Studies and Language Arts, and pass the test!  Daytime and early evening class times are available. Come on a schedule that fits your life.

Are you good at helping people put their life on a tax form?  You will get all the training you need to save local families LOTS of money by helping them get their taxes done for free.  Or volunteer to help with desk duty, welcoming and directing clients to meet with tax preparers.

Goodwill Gulf Coast will be staffing two locations to prepare taxes for free for local residents.  The Ladd Learning Center is located at 2440 Gordon Smith Drive in Mobile 36617, and the Azalea Opportunity Center is 300-F Azalea Road, Mobile 36609.  Schedules will be posted in January.  Spend this fall learning all you need to know with VITA training, so you will be ready for the tax season in late January.  Next class starts soon!

Goodwill Gulf Coast has hundreds of books at 7431 Airport Blvd, Mobile, AL 36617, (in the Community Center) and they need to be sorted for quality so children can take them home to read and enjoy!  You, your children, co-workers or community group can make a big difference in just 2 hours of time.

About Our Camps:​ ​

Our Summer Bible Camps are six weeks of Bible study, games, music, sports, skits, crafts, water, and especially, FUN. Each summer, we have the opportunity to share Christ with over 150 children from high-crime, low-income communities while providing them with a safe, positive environment in which to spend their time away from school, all at no cost to the individual.   ​

We are currently operating camps in 2 locations: Alabama Village (Camp LOV) and Toulminville (Camp Peace). We also have the opportunity to share the Gospel with more than 250 additional children at multiple City of Mobile Parks and Rec and Boys and Girls Club summer camp sites

Summer Employment:

• Camp is 10am-4pm Tuesdays-Fridays, June 9-July 17, 2026.

• Training is June 1-5, 2026.

• Must be 18 or older or have graduated from high school to intern.

• We pay $1,000 for the summer, and can provide housing if needed.

Want to make life a little easier for those living on the streets? The Homeless Sleeping Mat Ministry invites you to join them every Tuesday and Thursday from 10:00 am until 12:00 noon to learn how to make a sleeping mat out of plastic bags! Complete training will be provided by the experts, and soon you'll be on your way to contributing to a better night's sleep for one of our area's homeless. Help with smoothing, folding, cutting, and looping plastic bags to weave into sleeping mats.

United Way's Emerging Leaders is once again joining Wilmer Hall Children's Home to help host their Annual Pancake Breakfast on Saturday, April 25th. Join the Emerging Leaders by participating in this impactful event, helping raise critical funds for Wilmer Hall's mission - providing a safe home for children and young adults in need due to poverty, abuse, neglect, and homelessness.

Volunteers will be responsibile for managing traffic, packaging meals, delivering meals, and participating in ongoing event cleanup.

Most people think of tax season as something that ends on April 15, and for some of our volunteers it does. But some volunteers continue to help people with late filings, back taxes, etc. right on through the summer and fall. 

We are seeking volunteers who are interested in learning to prepare taxes for us after tax season. If there is interest, we are considering holding certification classes in May so that new volunteers can start helping in June. This does two things: It gives you a chance to work in a less hectic environment after the rush of tax season has ended. It also gives some of our tax season volunteers a well-deserved break if they want one.

Ronald McDonald House of Mobile is a non-profit charity whose mission is to provide essential services that remove barriers, strengthen families, and promote healing when children need healthcare. The two Family Rooms are an extension of the House. Rooms of peaceful respite located inside USA Health Children’s and Women’s Hospital. All family members of hospitalized children utilize the many amenities such as private shower, laundry facilities, snacks and a place to rest.

Development and Marketing Internship at the House
This individual will work under the direction of the Development Director and the Marketing Manager.

SUMMARY
The Development & Marketing Intern will assist with all aspects of fundraising, events, community engagement and marketing to increase funding and raise awareness of our mission and programs.

DUTIES
Identity relevant social and cultural trends and moments that align with Ronald McDonald House as a brand.
· Create visual assets for social media
· Assist at events with capturing video and photography
· Assist with McDonald’s visits to promote the Round-Up program
· Participate in tailgate activities to promote Round-Up and RMH of Mobile events
· Assist before, during and after fundraising events
· Grant writing
· General office duties including mailings and distribution of print marketing materials to local businesses and sponsors

REQUIREMENTS
· Familiarity with Canva and other editing tools

Program and Family Services Internship at the House - This individual will work under the direction of the Assistant Director and Family Services Coordinator

· Complete House Operations training with Assistant Director, including, but not limited to do room inspections, maintenance, future analysis, volunteer program, meal program etc.
· Complete training with Family Services Coordinator on all daily duties including,  check-in’s and check out’s, communicating with the hospital, referrals, family resources. Coordinate cleaning and organizing, the transportation program, troubleshoot family matters, general office work. Prepare for and conduct family meetings as needed, organize data, high school ambassador program.

Family Room Internship located inside Children's & Women's Hospital

· Train with the Family Room Coordinator on every aspect of the program.
Coordinating volunteers, Family Registry, office work, data analysis, cleaning, organizing, Happy Wheels Cart, Coffee Cart, laundry, food and drinks, etc.

Child Protect is looking for a few helping hands to assist with a spring yard clean-up at our center. Volunteers will help with simple outdoor tasks such as raking leaves, pulling weeds, light trimming, and general yard tidying. These efforts help us maintain a welcoming and safe environment for the children and families we serve. We appreciate anyone willing to give a little time to help refresh our space for spring! 

Ronald McDonald Family Rooms are an extension of Ronald McDonald House Charities of Mobile, Alabama, a bit of home within the walls of USA Children’s and Women’s Hospital.

The Family Rooms are located on the 3rd and 4th floors in the pediatric tower, and serve as a place of peaceful respite, possess a warm and friendly atmosphere for families to use while remaining merely steps away from their child’s bedside.

RMH Mobile relies on donations of household items and supplies to provide the comforts of home to our families in our 38 guestroom Home and our two-Family Rooms located inside USA Health Children’s & Women’s Hospital. Your donations help make their stay more comfortable so they can focus on their hospitalized child. Next time you are out shopping for items for your own home, we would be grateful if you picked up a few things for us, too. Individual volunteer opportunity...

Prep the kitchen for family meal volunteer groups. Unload all dishwashers, sanitize all surfaces, greet groups, explain the kitchen process and locate items needed. Troubleshoot any questions, assist in any way needed. No group? Warm and set up take-out or provided meal. During downtime, re-stock pantry, sanitizing dining room etc.

Collect pull tabs from aluminum cans and donate them to Ronald McDonald House. The program raises approximately $2 – $4 thousand dollars each year and goes toward the operating costs of Ronald McDonald House Mobile. Become a part of something special and help “The House That Love Built”!

We are looking for a self-starter with painting, some sheet rock, carpentry, plumbing and basic electrical skills who is willing to donate a few hours a week.  Some tools a plus, shifts are flexible.

Coming home from the hospital for a freshly prepared meal, made by people who care is a real gift to our families.

This program is for groups of up to 12 volunteers. The time commitment is 2–4 hours. Consider breaking large groups into several smaller groups. Plan to cook for 45-50 people and prepare the meal in our RMH kitchen. Food prepared in commercial cooking establishments such as restaurants, catering services or cafeterias and then brought in or delivered is acceptable as well. Phillip Cares, Inc. is supported by a dedicated team of volunteers who assist with application processing, event coordination, and community outreach. Our volunteers are trained to handle administrative tasks such as reviewing applications, coordinating with pet owners, and facilitating communication with our service partners. Dwell Connect (formerly Passport to Literacy) is our tutoring program for all school-aged children, held on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons from 4:00-5:45pm. Volunteers can serve on either day or both days, whichever fits best with their schedule. 

Volunteers are needed from 3:30-6:00pm and will help with a variety of activities, including one-on-one tutoring, enrichment activities, and playing soccer! 

This program is held off-site from Dwell Mobile (close to South Alabama) and will follow the public school calendar. Volunteers must be 18 or older and provide a background check when working with children. Location will be given once volunteer is confirmed.

Cleaning Support Volunteer
Reports to: Kennel Staff II or Training Staff

As a Cleaning Support Volunteer, you’ll work alongside the kennel team to maintain clean, safe, and sanitary conditions throughout the shelter. A well-maintained environment helps reduce illness, keeps pets comfortable, and ensures animals are presented in their best light to potential adopters.

Location: Mobile County Animal Shelter 7665 Howells Ferry Rd
Time Commitment:

Shifts are approximately 3 hours long

Weekdays: Between 8:00 AM and 4:00 PM

Weekends: Between 7:00 AM and 2:00 PM

Shifts are flexible - coordinate with the Volunteer Coordinator or training kennel staff.

Assist with routine cleaning and sanitation tasks

Help maintain a healthy and presentable shelter environment

Check in with staff at the beginning of each shift for assigned tasks

Sanitize surfaces and areas within the adoption center following established protocols

Clean food/water dishes, perform laundry, and assist in feeding areas

Mark off completed tasks and communicate notes or needs to staff

Ability to follow instructions and adhere to safety and cleaning protocols

Able to lift between 10–40 pounds

Comfortable walking, bending, stooping, and standing for extended periods

Friendly and respectful when interacting with staff, visitors, and other volunteers

Orientation Video

We need your help with our spring clean-up day. Join us on Saturday, April 18th , for a day of teamwork and community spirit as we clear areas of the ranch.

Here's what we'll be tackling: Clearing brush, timber, and debris, cutting up fallen trees, remove old fencing and a fire.

Bring your chainsaws, PPE (gloves, hearing and eye protection), and other clearing tools to get the job done. We’ll have plenty of water thanks to our sponsor, water and snacks to keep you fueled up. Also, we can gladly provide a volunteer letter for your time.

We are looking for individuals willing to assist in our non-traditional shelter operations as needed.  Non-traditional shelters may be warming stations/centers, cooling stations/centers, and Safer Places (State of Alabama designated sites for severe weather).  Interested volunteers would work under a shelter manager and will assist with any needs that may arise (set up, registration, food service, site supervision, volunteer coordination, etc).   Hours would be flexible and would likely include overnight shifts.

Shelter occupants would include unhoused individuals, persons without adequate heating/air conditioning, persons medically and other vulnerable populations.

Participants would need their own transportation, a valid driver's license, and potentially pass a background check as the need involves serving vulnerable populations (including children) and multiple sites in Mobile County and may include some virtual activities.

Mobile County EMA is looking for individuals in the Mobile, AL area who are willing to help our agency in assisting the citizens of Mobile.  Activities will be varied and require various physical activities and abilities.  It may be answering phones, loading water and food into vehicles, working in our warehouse or a donated goods warehouse, and managing various volunteer operations and many more possibilities.

Persons interested would be encouraged to participate in trainings and exercises to achieve a basic level of competency in emergency management practices and tactics.  Trainings would be free of charge and would be virtual and in-person.  A simple application and liability release are required.  Hours are flexible and would primarily be M-F, 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM in Blue Skies (Day-to-Day) and in Grey Skies (Hazzard/Disaster times) it would be 4, 6, 8, and 12 hour shifts based on need and your willingness to participate.

The Arc of Clarke County is looking for volunteers with a "green thumb" or who love gardening, to volunteer in our greenhouse. 

We are always in need of volunteers who are caring and ready to make a difference in the lives of animals and adopters.  You will be helping to place as many adoptable animals as possible into loving homes, while positively impacting the community. This is a low-commitment opportunity and we don't mind if you drop in once or if we see you every weekend!

Our pups can't wait to show the serene trails we have running through the back yard. They are hoping you can play for a two hour shift on Saturday or Sunday - either between 11:00am and 1:00pm or between 2:00pm and 4:00pm. United Way of Southwest Alabama's Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program is growing, and we need volunteers! We're looking for people who want to learn to prepare free tax returns and to serve in our various tax centers throughout the Mobile area. This is important work, and it only happens with the dedication of our volunteer team.

You don't have to have tax preparation experience. It helps of course, but we offer training supported by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS).

Please note: This is not training to start your own tax preparation business for pay. Volunteers are not allowed to accept payment for the tax returns they prepare for our taxpayers.

Although people think you have to be a math wiz to do taxes, the fact is the computer does most of the math. The most important skills have to do with working with other people as a team, listening to your clients, and applying the tax rules fairly, accurately, and consistently. And every return you prepare gets reviewed by a second volunteer, so there's always someone to double-check your work for you; you're never alone.

We'll hold orientation (come and learn more) sessions before training. Classes begin in November and are typically offered on weekdays and Saturdays. Sign up now and we'll notify you once the dates are set for training.

The Brown Bag Bus is The YMCA of Greater Montgomery’s one-of-a-kind initiative to combat the effects of childhood hunger in Montgomery, Alabama. Our Brown Bag Bus is unique and serves an immediate need in our community. Outfitted with healthy meals, it travels to different areas in the Montgomery community to serve meals those in need.  The program provides hundreds of meals per day during the school year and thousands of meals per week during the summer.  Monday - Friday 1:00pm - 6:00pm
